Mount Rushmore

by Andrew

Today we went to mass at a cathedral. It was really nice.
Third Communion at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City, SD

Then, after lunch we went to Mount Rushmore, which was nothing like I expected. I expected it to be more like you parked and then walked to a spot you could see Mount Rushmore, not all the shops and visitors centers and the Sculptor's Studio.

First we parked our car and saw Mount Rushmore. We went to the Visitor's Center and signed up for the Junior Ranger program and got a National Parks Passport. The Junior Ranger program is a program where you can earn badges by going to the national parks and doing activities. The passport is a book where you stamp stamps from different national parks so that you know you went there.

Then, after going to another visitor's center, we went on a walk that goes to the base of Mount Rushmore and there was a pretty cool cave on the walk. You can look up through a hole at Mount Rushmore.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln are carved into the mountain. George Washington is my favorite and Thomas (Jefferson) was Simeon's favorite.

At the end we turned in our Junior Ranger books, were sworn in as Junior Rangers, and got our badges. I think today's my favorite day so far.
